Where?: 8Q @ SAM
Date: 14 January to 15 April 2012 (I'm a last minute person)
What was I doing there?: To find some peace
As expected, since museum walks are not one of the favourite past times of Singaporeans, the Singapore Art Museum was extremely quiet (even when it is FREE admission! Like SERIOUSLY? FREE LEH!) except for a few visitors from foreign lands and probably 2 to 3 art maniacs like myself.
I must say that we do have many talented locally bred artists, there is no need to look elsewhere or resort to imports, just keep a close look out and you will find gems right here in Singapore. Sadly, it is only Andy Warhol and other big names that will turn our locals' attention to the museums (even not free one, you all also will go <you'd even pay to enter>).
Guess there is a lot of work to be done to get locals to support locals.
Anyway, back to the exhibition, one of my favourite art pieces was Crystal City by Donna Ong. She uses glassware and lighting for a whole city to be lit up. Glassware are not to be hidden behind our kitchen cupboard doors she mentioned.
